The Enhydra tools are pure Java server-side components which are Open Source. They aren't necessarily the fastest performers; but they a definitely portable and scalable.

Enhydra is not a single piece of software. At the time of this writing (v2.3), it has several independently useful components:

• XMLC - reads an HTML file and compiles it into an XML (DOM) object tree which may be manipulated by your servlet, thus treating the HTML as source code for the GUI
• MultiServer - an integrated web server and servlet container, which provides load balancing and fail over
• Servlet debugger - can be used to debug servlet transactions in MultiServer, Apache JServ, and other servlet containers
• Framework, including DODS - can structure a web application by abstracting the presentation and persistence mechanism, allowing the developer to focus on the business logic

The Enhydra community is presently collaborating to integrate the JOnAS EJB server and on several initiatives such as ROCKS, which is intended to be a "JSP killer", making XMLC easier to use.
