Web Page Design

At this point I should confess that I do not consider myself a web page designer.  Although I can put things on a web page and have some education about what is good, this skill is not my strength.  Many "script kiddies" can throw together fancy pages that blow mine away; but I don't consider them to be web page designers either.

Who is a good web page designer?  Someone who knows how to create web pages that convey the proper balance of user orientation and standardization according to documented criteria.  The book "Designing Web Usability: the Practice of Simplicity" covers the criteria fairly well (in my opinion); but user orientation is a skill that requires personal interaction with end users.  This skill is something that has to be learned from actual experience within the business.

This section intends to approach WELD from the viewpoint of a web page designer.  This is important information even for those of us who are programmers and may never write any documents that will be viewed by the end user.
