Getting Set Up

With all of these precautions and complex introductory examples, you might think that WELD is a big hairy elaborate system that requires a huge server environment to run.  Not at all.  The Java archive (jar) containing the WELD classes is smaller (17K) than many GIF files that you download when you visit the MSN home page - and you only need to download it once.

If you have a PC with a JDK and web browser already installed, you should be up and running in a just few minutes.

Here is an overview of the steps that need to be done to start using WELD:

  1. Get a standard JDK
  2. Get and install vqserver
  3. Get the standard version of JACL
  4. Get and install WELD
  5. Configure vqserver to see JACL and WELD
  6. Run the vqserver
  7. Write a simple WELD test with your favorite editor
  8. View the WELD test with your web browser
